FAQs

Where will our sessions take place?

Herbal consultations: Our sessions will take place virtually, aka anywhere you are! If you are in the Charlottesville, VA area, we can also meet in person at The Elderberry.

Craniosacral Therapy: In-person sessions take place in Charlottesville, VA at The Elderberry. If you’re in the Charlottesville area, I can come to your home (add $10 travel fee). If the weather is nice, I sometimes offer sessions outside.

What can I expect during a craniosacral therapy session?

First, we will discuss what you need from me so that you feel as safe and comfortable as possible throughout the session. Then, I take a moment to get grounded and begin.

If you are comfortable, I will very lightly touch various areas on the front and back of your body as well as your head. If you do not want touch, I can hover my hands above your body, or not have my hands near you at all.

The most common feeling that clients report is a sense of relaxation and calm. Apart from that, everyone’s experience is different. Some people feel a lot of energetic shifts during the session, while others may not experience this until days later. Some people feel tactile sensations (heat, cold, tingling, wind, energy moving through the body, etc.), some people have visual experiences, some auditory.

I trust that whatever experiences take place during the session are a reflection of your body’s intelligence and that your body will not give you any more than you can handle.

Can I book a single session for an herbal consultation?

The short answer is, no.

Having a single session with an herbalist is like turning back halfway through a hike, never getting a change to see the breathtaking valley at the top – you won’t be able to reap all of the benefits and you may leave feeling unfulfilled. During the initial consultation, your story, health history, and concerns will form the basis of your personal herbal formula. But the work doesn’t stop there. The way you respond to the formula is also crucial for you and your practitioner to discuss. Whether it was the perfect fit or it needs some tweaking, this information will bring both of us closer to understanding what your body needs. Furthermore, letting someone into your healing journey can be extremely vulnerable. Having more than one session is a way to build trust and allow you to feel held knowing that you have a 2-4 month container to reach out for support.

Do herbs really work?

Oh, yes. Plant medicine is so spectacular because our bodies can easily recognize and assimilate it. The plants are our ancestors after all. They have been here longer than us and have evolved alongside us. Modern medicine has largely forgotten the wisdom of plants, but our bodies have not.

I’ve tried herbs before. They didn’t help at all!

The true art behind herbalism is in understanding the way plants and people are all unique. A tea that works wonders for my menstrual cramps may not help you at all. Working with a practitioner who knows plants energetically to make a custom formula specific to your needs and constitution makes all the difference.
